In the early years of the 20th century, keeping wastewater separate from potable water was the most pressing issue. Today, finding ways to reduce pressure on the shrinking water supply is paramount. Reclaimed wastewater can be used to irrigate golf courses and create wetlands, reducing dependence on the clean water supply, and reclaimed biosolids from the wastewater can be used to create organic fertilizer.
In addition to finding alternatives for reclaimed wastewater, proper collection and treatment of wastewater has never been more important - or more challenging. Discharge limits are becoming more stringent for nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphorus, causing operational costs to rise as utilities must meet additional permit requirements. HDR has experienced staff and innovative solutions to address all of your wastewater needs.
