HDR has served the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Utilities plant with various design efforts since 1990. In order to ensure that CMU will continue to meet all permit and environmental requirements at its largest wastewater treatment plant, the Consolidated Influent Pumping Facilities replaced three existing influent pump stations. This project involved a new 140-mgd, firm-capacity headworks facility, two new influent pumping stations with current firm capacities of 92 and 112 mgd, and increasing flow equalization pumping. The new 120-mgd facilities were designed to handle the increased wastewater flows from a new parallel relief sewer that is expected to increase total peak flows during wet weather conditions by 37 percent and accommodate future growth in the service area until the year 2025.
