Clark County Sewer Rehabilitation and Replacement
Clark County Water Reclamation District
Clark County, Nevada

When a portion of corroded, unlined concrete sewer pipe collapsed near Treasure Island Casino and Resort under the Las Vegas Strip, the Clark County Water Reclamation District (CCWRD) ordered a full-scale sewer assessment.

The CCWRD Board of Directors wanted to establish an aggressive program that would result in the repair, replacement or rehabilitation of sewer infrastructure under the Strip, as well as make necessary upgrades or replacements to prevent similar incidents.

HDR was selected for Phases 1 and 2 of the Pipeline Rehabilitation project, which included tasks such as project management, field investigations, preliminary design, preparation of bid documents and community relations. Pre-construction phase support services also were included, as were inspection services, engineering, administrative and construction support services. HDR was also responsible for utility, right-of-way and flow condition research.

Most of the work involved in Phases 1 and 2 was concentrated near the intersection of Tropicana and Flamingo avenues. All of the sewer pipelines and manholes within the project boundaries were restored.

Two of the biggest requirements the CCWRD put in place were that the pipelines had to be lined using the cured-in-place pipe process and that, if necessary, manholes needed to be lined or coated.
