HDR Architecture, Inc. now offers Evidence-based Design for Healthcare Facilities, a new book that explores the use of evidence-based design concepts in the planning, programming and design of healthcare facilities. It begins with a review of available evidence-based practices, evidence-based medicine and evidence-based design in healthcare and ends with a preview of future technology and advancements.

An important aspect is the discussion on the development of evidence-based design on private and safe environments for patients and caregivers with accompanying global examples. Throughout the book, case studies are presented to illustrate the real-life application of the theories being discussed.

The book is edited by Cyndi McCullough, RN, MSN, director of clinical services for HDR, and includes contributions from members of HDR's Healthcare Consulting Group as well as HDR healthcare clients.

"An important aspect of the book is the discussion on the development of evidence-based design on private and safe environments for patients and caregivers," said McCullough. "Our intent was to give readers the necessary knowledge, tools, and strategies to incorporate evidence-based design concepts into any design project—from the largest new healthcare facility construction to the smallest departmental renovation. This book contains information about those things that are essential to the thoughtful design of innovative healthcare environments that empower our clients to heal, care, and work better."

All proceeds from book sales will be donated to the nursing education and research programs of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing.
