Remarkable Hoover Dam Bypass Photo is One of ENR's Images of the Year
(January 6, 2011) - An image of the Hoover Dam Bypass in Boulder City, Nev., was selected as one of the best construction photos of 2010 by ENR magazine. The photo, taken by Keith Philpott of Olathe, Kan., features a bridge inspector on the 1,900-foot-long Mike O'Callaghan-Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge, which spans the Colorado River.
The project, which was dedicated on Oct. 14, 2010, is a reality in part due to HDR's design of several key elements and management of the consultant design team. The bypass, including the Mike O'Callaghan-Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge, approach roadways and several additional bridges, elegantly solves the challenges of mobility and safety in the dam vicinity. It increases travel speed throughout the corridor; improves safety through the addition of a modern, four-lane divided facility; and completes a critical link in the construction of a four-lane highway between Phoenix and Las Vegas.
