Health Hub Experience Guide Named a Finalist in Fast Company's Innovation By Design Awards

(September 12, 2016) - Fast Company magazine has named the Health Hub Experience Guide for Kaiser Permanente a finalist in their annual Innovation By Design Awards. Finalists "represent what's best about design today: big ideas, meticulously thought-out details, and a clear viewpoint about how we live now—and how it could be better."

Health Hubs represent a new approach to the patient experience, from the check-in process to the aesthetics of the waiting area to the way doctors and nurses interact with members and one another. Moving health services out of the hospital and integrating them into communities in inviting, engaging environments, Health Hubs encourage busy members to visit, follow up, and follow through with their healthy habits. By creating areas that feel like more like community centers than sterile clinical zones, Kaiser Permanente hopes to push beyond reluctant annual checkups into a fully integrated approach to wellness.

The idea of Health Hubs originated from a broader Life Integration vision, developed through Project RAD (Reimagining Ambulatory Design). Kaiser Permanente has already begun implementing Health Hubs: the Manhattan Beach Health Hub Clinic is the first of nine hubs to be designed and built around Southern California, and serves as a "real-world laboratory" to test and fine-tune Health Hub concepts.

Over 1,700 projects were submitted for consideration in the Innovation By Design Awards. The Innovation By Design Awards are featured in Fast Company's October 2016 print edition.
