Illinois Tollway Awards HDR Design of I-90 Widening and Reconstruction from IL 72 to IL 53
(May 30, 2012) - HDR was recently selected by the Illinois Tollway to provide design services for the widening and reconstruction of 7.5 miles of I-90, from IL 72 to IL 53 in South Barrington and Schaumburg. The construction cost is estimated to exceed $300 million.
This segment of I-90 carries 183,000 vehicles a day. The Illinois Tollway is taking on the project to relieve congestion, improve operations and replace the 60-year-old concrete pavement.
Project features include:
- More than eight acres of right-of-way, nine acres of permanent easement and five acres of temporary easement
- 17,000 feet of retaining walls and 20 noise barriers
- Upgrade or replacement of multiple bridges
- Incorporation of bus rapid transit and high occupancy toll lanes
The project has a scheduled completion of March 2016.
