David Grandy Inducted into Building Design+Construction’s ‘40 Under 40’ Class of 2013
(May 13, 2013) - David Grandy, FACHE, Director of Innovation and Senior Healthcare Consultant for HDR, was recognized as one of Building Design+Construction magazine's '40 Under 40' honorees for 2013. The list highlights young "superstars" who represent the next generation of leadership in the architecture, engineering, and construction industries. David is also featured on the cover of this month's magazine.
As head of HDR's Innovation Consulting Group, David is HDR's go-to-guy for kick-starting innovation with clients and design teams that are stuck in the ordinary and struggling to think beyond today. He has helped clients such as Google, Kaiser Permanente, GE, and USG Corp. discover novel ways of thinking and doing things that helped their organizations move forward. As a Senior Healthcare Consultant, his job is to facilitate designers' understanding of how a health system executive thinks and how to apply that same kind of thinking to the design process. He ensures healthcare buildings not only look beautiful, but exceed the operational, financial and community objectives set by the client.
Reflecting on David's expertise, Doug Wignall, President of HDR Architecture, says, "David has the rare ability to combine design thinking and business savvy in a way that pushes our design teams and clients to think of entirely new and inventive solutions. If we want a project to go where no other has gone before, we pick up the phone and call David."
The annual '40 under 40' honorees are chosen by editors of Building Design+Construction on the basis of three factors: career achievement, service to professions and communities, and active participation in charitable work. Over the years, seven HDR employees have been given this recognition—David Grandy (2013), Jim Henry, AIA (2012), Mohammed Ayoub, RIBA (2011), Heidi Higgason, AIA (2010), Abbie Clary, AIA (2010), Tom Trenolone, AIA (2007), and Michaella Wittmann, LEED Fellow (2006).
