Many Glacier Hotel Renovation Wins Colorado Construction Management Association of America's Project Achievement Award
(May 15, 2012) - The Many Glacier Hotel renovation project has received a Project Achievement Award from the Construction Management Association of America, Colorado chapter. The project was selected for the award in the Buildings Project - Renovation/Modernization - Under $15 Million category.
The project was led by Jon Holbrook, senior Federal program manager with HDR's Environmental, Operations and Construction, Inc., who is located in the Englewood, Colo., office. The team included the HDR construction management team, National Park Service Denver Service Center, Glacier National Park, Glacier Park, Inc., Anderson Hallas Architects and Swank Enterprises.
The Many Glacier Hotel is the primary visitor facility for the east side of Glacier National Park and hosts approximately 500,000 visitors during the annual visitor season. The building, constructed from 1914 to 1917, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. HDR's on-site construction management responsibilities included full-time on-site construction management/inspection and contract administration. The project included renovations to the dining room, main lobby and guest rooms and replacement of all plumbing, mechanical, fire sprinkler, fire alarm and electrical components throughout the entire north section of the hotel.
Unique challenges included the hotel's remote location and numerous issues ranging from dealing with an historic structure that required complex structural, mechanical, electrical and accessibility improvements, to extreme weather conditions.
