HDR Signs Contract to Design International Hospital at Beijing International Medical Center

(January 8, 2014) - Laura Iskandar and Wesley (Wen-Kuo) Chou recently attended a contract signing ceremony for HDR to design the new International Hospital at Beijing International Medical Center. The ceremony took place at the 24th U.S.-China Joint Commission on Commerce and Trade in Beijing. In attendance were top trade officials from the U.S. and China, including U.S. Secretary of Commerce, Penny Pritzker.

The International Hospital is planned as a 900-bed facility following the highest standards in healthcare design and construction, and operated and managed according to international standards. The hospital will be built in two phases; phase 1 includes a 300-bed general hospital and a medical technology facility, and phase 2 includes two 300-bed specialty hospitals. Both phases will be completed in 2017.

The signing of the contract for the International Hospital is the next step in HDR's involvement with the Beijing International Medical Center, which was master planned by HDR in 2011.  When fully developed, the medical center will be three-fourths the size of Manhattan, making it the largest medical center in the world.
