HDR Part of Project Management Team Selected for Anchorage Port Modernization Project
(September 12, 2014) – HDR is on the project management team selected by the Municipality of Anchorage and the Port of Anchorage for the Anchorage Port Modernization Project. Led by CH2M HILL, the team will provide project and construction management services to update the existing deep-water port. Built in 1961, the port needs to be modernized to better support the local and state economy.
The Port of Anchorage is the only intermodal deep-water port in the state. About 90 percent of the goods for 87 percent of Alaska pass through it. It is also one of 22 National Strategic Seaports for the United States Department of Defense.
The project is focused on replacing two marine terminals, modernizing infrastructure, improving seismic resilience, and providing continuous operations for Port users during construction. Three concepts were identified during a recent week-long design charrette. These will be developed to a 15 percent design level by November 2014, at which time a recommended alternative will be presented to the Municipality of Anchorage. Pending funding, the project will move into final design, permitting and construction.
In addition to project and construction management services, HDR's responsibilities include program management support, engineering support, environmental support, stakeholder coordination, procurement support, and construction observation.
