LoBuono Honored with ASBI Leadership Award
(November 25, 2014) - Joe LoBuono, HDR's major bridge technical director, was recently honored with the American Segmental Bridge Institute's Leadership Award. The award pays tribute to an outstanding career in the design and construction of concrete segmental bridges.
For more than 46 years, LoBuono has provided technical leadership and innovation on a wide range of high profile concrete segmental bridges. Based in HDR's Newark, New Jersey office, he is a recognized expert in balanced cantilever design and is renowned for his knowledge of segmental and cable-stayed bridges.
LoBuono has contributed to the industry in many ways – including serving as design manager/technical director on notable projects such as Sunshine Skyway Bridge, Roosevelt Bridge and Dame Point Bridge, and as technical director for construction engineering services on the SR9A/I-295/I-95 Interchange in Florida, the Victory Bridge in New Jersey and the Roslyn Viaduct in New York. Currently, he is serving as lead engineer on the Bayonne Bridge "Raise the Roadway" program, which features more than 10,600 feet of precast concrete segmental approach viaduct.
To further disseminate his wide-ranging knowledge, LoBuono has authored many technical papers and presented at numerous conferences over the years. He is a member of the American Concrete Institute, American Society of Civil Engineers, Post Tensioning Institute and the International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering. He is also past Bridge Committee Chairman for the Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute.
