Peter J. Zipf Joins HDR as Northeast Region Transportation Director
(October 13, 2015) - Peter J. Zipf, P.E., F. ASCE, has joined HDR as the firm's Northeast Region transportation director. Based in the Manhattan office, his responsibilities include overseeing all aspects of the Northeast transportation practice that includes New England, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Maryland, District of Columbia and Virginia. He will help grow and diversify HDR's programs in the region.
Prior to joining HDR, Zipf spent 30 years with the Port Authority of New York/New Jersey, most recently serving as Chief Engineer from 2010 to 2015, where he managed a $27.6 billion capital program. He is well known for his leadership, improving operations through staff development, applied technologies, and operational efficiencies. He was responsible for the $12 billion State of Good Repair Program that prioritized major renewal programs to optimize constrained capital funding. He was also responsible for the engineering response and recovery from the devastating impacts of Superstorm Sandy at all Port Authority facilities. In addition to his extensive experience leading large diverse teams and managing programs, he was responsible for design and construction of major complex, multi-phased projects.
Zipf holds a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from Manhattan College, where he is a member of its Hall of Fame, and a master's degree in construction management from NYU's Polytechnic School of Engineering. He is a Trustee in the Moles, an organization in the heavy construction industry, and a Fellow in the American Society of Civil Engineers, serving on the Industry Leaders Council. He holds professional engineering licenses in the states of New York and New Jersey and has authored several publications/presentations on project management and engineering technology.
