Matthew Suarez Earns Distinction Award
(October 6, 2016) – Matthew Suarez, a senior healthcare planner for global design firm HDR, was honored last month with the Individual Award at the Healthcare Facilities Symposium & Expo in Orlando, Florida. The Individual Award honors a professional in the fields of healthcare planning, design, construction and operations that has displayed leadership and vision with a passion to enhance the healing environment.
"For me, winning this distinction award is equally an acknowledgement to the great healthcare planners we have in our company as it is to my personal accomplishments," says Matthew Suarez. "I truly believe we have the best planning team of any company, and I am thrilled and honored to have represented HDR on a national stage."
With more than a decade of experience, Matthew has been instrumental in the design of numerous healthcare facilities. His healthcare experience encompasses a broad spectrum of domestic and international projects in both the ambulatory and acute care environments. Matthew's primary project role is leading the development of the overall design and clinical planning. Keeping a big picture perspective and drawing on his experience of complex and high profile projects, he engages the healthcare team in design workshops and user-group meetings to ensure clinical functionality.
As a lover of all things that merge architecture and human nature, Matthew has always been intrigued by buildings that can influence the way people behave. From a healthcare perspective, he has immersed himself in discovering and designing spaces that allow people to have a therapeutic experience while also receiving medical care.
"Matthew is considered one of HDR's thought leaders in healthcare design internationally. Nearly every HDR award-winning international project in the last five years has his fingerprints on it," says Jim Atkinson, vice president and director of health planning. "He is one of the finest healthcare planners and designers of his generation and we are proud of his achievements in the industry and his contributions to HDR's health practice."
