Evidence-Based Design Case Studies
As a follow-up to the book "Evidence-Based Design for Healthcare Facilities," HDR Architecture, Inc., has released three videos highlighting evidence-based design principles in action. The videos feature an introduction to evidence-based design as well as three case studies.
Episode 1: The New Hanover Regional Medical Center segment is narrated by Brandi Page, neonatal services manager in the hospital's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Brandi explains how design solutions like private patient rooms, family amenities, decentralized nurse stations, and new technology increased patient and staff satisfaction scores significantly.
Episode 2: Cyndi McCullough, director of clinical planning at HDR, narrates the second case study featuring St. Mary's Medical Center North in Knoxville, Tennessee. The video looks at how features such as tracking boards, hands-free communication systems, room service dietary, and bedside admission make the care giving process more efficient.
Episode 3: Bernie Gehrki, senior project principal at HDR, narrates a case study of Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise, Idaho. The video shares the results of a noise study conducted on a patient unit. The study resulted in a renovation that improved patient sleep and satisfaction scores significantly, and lowered stress in care givers.
