Reimagining Community Health
Reimagining Community Health
Peña Station NEXT
It's simple. Health and wellness must be integrated into the lives of patients; it must be intuitive, pervasive and aspirational. For meaningful changes in health, healthcare should fit smoothly into the lives of the individual. Right now, most people experience healthcare through the basic appointment by visiting a healthcare facility. The culture of healthcare is to get you in and out. At Peña NEXT, we are integrating clinic and fitness into the heart of a TOD community. At Pena NEXT, health and wellness becomes an experience within the community rather than just a visit to a building for an appointment you're rushing to finish and leave.
Healthcare must become an expression of how we live. It should have a pervasive role in patients' lives, not just passively existing only when it is called upon. Currently, healthcare is a one-size-fits-all model: the physician appointment. Instead, we can provide healthcare opportunities that accommodate patients' needs and lifestyles within their own communities.
Reimagining Ambulatory Care
Kaiser Permanente Health Hubs
Our work with Kaiser led to the idea of "Re-imagining Ambulatory Design" (RAD). Project RAD's underlying premise is life integration: the conviction that healthcare interwoven into people's lives will enhance outcomes. Through this journey to life integration, we worked with Kaiser to develop a series of platforms to provide care. The first platform is a radically re-envisioned ambulatory care facility called the Health Hub – a community resource focused on health that welcomes members and non-members to learn how to thrive by engaging in healthy living, exercise and connections to nature while also providing a full range of clinical services. Intermountain LiVe Well Facilities
The healthcare industry is shifting from a practice focused on illness and cure to one driven by wellness, prevention and personal responsibility. But in order for individuals to be responsible for their own health and well-being, they need to be equipped with the proper tools to do so.
We are currently working with Intermountain on the design of new facilities infused with preventative concepts that have been adapted into Intermountain's LiVe Well program. The creation of the wellness program promotes collaborative healing where the physician, medical staff and patient work together to reduce the risk of the patient's health challenges. The LiVe Well centers provide the community an opportunity to become active participants in their health and well-being.
