Containment Laboratories Thought Leaders

Mark is the director of Containment Laboratory design for HDR Architecture. He has been designing Science and Technology facilities to protect both human and animal health since 2001. He has designed some of the most significant high containment facilities in the world, including projects for state public health institutions, international agencies such as the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Institute for Animal Health, and numerous academic institutions. Mr. Fitzgerald is particularly knowledgeable regarding regulations, codes, safety operations and protocol for high containment facilities. Not only is Mr. Fitzgerald proficient in technical requirements, he is also well-versed in designing for the safety, comfort and well-being of the people who work in these critical environments. Mark is an active member of the American Biological Safety Association (ABSA), the European Biological Safety Association (EBSA) and the International Veterinary Biological Safety Working Group. Mark is currently involved in several containment initiatives which are aimed at strengthening BSL-4 infrastructure around the world
