Leading the Way in HEC-RAS 5.0 (2D) Modeling
The newest release of HEC-RAS 5.0 (2D) on March 4, 2016 represents the most significant update in HEC-RAS in over a decade and is a true game changer in our industry. This update offers us the ability to efficiently and cost-effectively analyze much more complex problems than we could before, and often with less effort than was required to evaluate these problems with other tools.
We have been Alpha and Beta testing the software on more than 100 projects over the past three years while collaborating with the USACE Hydrologic Engineering Center (HEC) during the testing process – and we've learned a lot! We have performed analyses on tidally influenced systems, numerous dam breaches, floodplains and complex hydrodynamic problems. We have even used it to simulate rainfall-runoff processes over entire watersheds. We have also compared the latest HEC-RAS 2D model results with HEC-RAS 1D solutions, TUFLOW, InfoWorks and FLOW-3D models. The results are outstanding and impressive. The additional data that it provides will help us to better inform our designs, evaluate project alternatives and more accurately determine impacts of proposed project features.
HDR has trained over 70 of our hydraulic engineers how to use HEC-RAS 2D and have taught classes and workshops for many of our clients on how to use the tool and how to review the results they receive from staff and consultants.

Get HEC-RAS Trained
We offer advanced training courses on the use of HEC-RAS 5.0 software. The training covers the general software computation methods, preparation of input data, creation of 2D models, interpreting results, and troubleshooting. Training is organized in a fast-paced hands-on format that requires participants to have considerable previous experience with the HEC-RAS software. We also offer training to our clients on how to review a HEC-RAS 5.0 model. It is important to know what to look for in a properly prepared model.
