1 Denison is destined to be the largest commercial tower ever built in the North Sydney Central Business District (CBD). The design strategy for this 38-story building unlocks not only a landlocked site in the center of the CBD, but also creates new public space in the form of Denison Plaza. The plaza will add pedestrian open space to the dense CBD environment while removing pedestrian vehicular conflict points that currently dominate the heart of the CBD.
The commercial office floors feature benchmark architectural and technological innovations to support future-thinking workplaces. The design concept is founded on contemporary workplace strategies, such as the promotion of collaboration as a core business need. The floors are interconnected by shared spaces and multi-level central arrival lobbies that provide visual connections and pedestrian movement with minimal physical barriers. These shared areas are located at the intersection of circulation routes, creating collaborative and impromptu interaction zones that encourage informal social networking. The podium below the tower houses a series of food retail options and public space that will integrate with existing amenities to form a vibrant entertainment hub and a destination point for North Sydney's residents and workforce.
The tower facade is primarily glass, providing transparency into the building while offering expansive views to the outside. The form of the façade is defined by sun protection strategies, mainly sunshades that appear to ripple across the building skin. The sunshades mitigate radiant heat and glare for occupants while breaking up the structure and creating a more human scale.
1 Denison will provide a vibrant new focal point in the heart of the CBD, creating a new quality office environment while recreating the pedestrian experience in the heart of the city.
