HDR completed the planning and conceptual design/master plan for a new medical city as part of the development of a private healthcare system in Beijing. The medical city is planned to meet best-in-class international standards and provide the highest level of patient care. The project includes the integration of world-class hospitals, state-of-the-art medical research buildings, advanced nursing and physician educational spaces, a first-class simulation training center, applied biomedical and medical device research and related specialized patient care facilities, and residential and commercial facilities necessary for the medical city development.
Phase 1 of the project includes approximately 3.1 square kilometers (1.2 square miles) of developed land. Phase 2 adds an additional 12 square kilometers (4.63 square miles) of developed land to the development. The project is designed around sustainable principles and features five internal parks that connect to the two forest river parks that run parallel to the site on the north and south sides of the site. The environment will be unparalleled in its beauty and in the development of a patient-focused care environment. When complete, it will be the largest medical center in the world.
