Bellevue Medical Center
The new Bellevue Medical Center is modeled on a hospitality environment. It is warm and welcoming, incorporating a modern vocabulary comprising vernacular rectilinear shapes made of natural materials - stone, wood, metal and glass. These simple, linear forms tie the building to the surrounding landscape. The overarching vision for the new medical center is community. With the understanding that it is the community that nurtures and heals, the center provides comfort with dignity in a continuum of health and wellness. Reduced energy consumption and water conservation make the hospital 20 percent more energy efficient than a conventional hospital. A series of gardens reflect the hospital's mission by continuing the healing process outside. The Seven Gardens of Bellevue will each have healing benefits and will complement the hospital's dedication to "improving the health of Nebraska."
