Clifton to Washington County Line Rebuild and Upgrade, EPC Services
The Clifton to Washington County line once had wood H-frame transmission structures where conductor capacity became inadequate to meet area demands. Mid-Kansas Electric Company now has this 28-mile portion of their transmission network rebuilt in a way that increases line rating while decreasing land use impacts.
The transmission line design involved replacing the wood H-frame structures with single pole steel structures along the same centerline, reducing the utility's footprint on private lands. The rebuild also meant that two substations undergo design modifications to meet the line's new requirements.
HDR helped Mid-Kansas complete this time-sensitive project by combining a multi-disciplinary team of environmental, design, procurement and construction experts using EPC project delivery. In just seven months, the project went from construction mobilization to completion.
