The Dortmund Hospital is the largest hospital in North Rhine-Westphalia and the second largest municipal hospital in Germany. The hospital's new Dortmund-Mitte Clinic restructured the decentralized operative capacities and the diagnostic areas into a central, interdisciplinary operating department. Extremely functional spaces were created through compact organization in the new building and by linking existing functions in the existing building. Visitors access the new clinic by passing through a daylight-flooded thoroughfare accessible via the existing main entrance of the central building.
