Glen Campus Development

McGill University Health Centre
Montreal, Quebec, Canada

The McGill University Health Centre's Glen Site will combine the Royal Victoria Hospital, The Montreal Children's Hospital, the Montreal Chest Institute, a new Cancer Centre and the Research Institute of the MUHC as well as the Shriners' Hospital for Children®, under one roof on a single site. In essence, the new MUHC Glen Site will become a fully integrated translational health campus, containing over two million square feet of built space where research for better patient outcomes is ongoing throughout.

The new healthcare campus is being brought to life by multiple partners within the Groupe immobilier santé McGill team, including planners from HDR. Our planners led efforts for multiple clinical areas, including those in the Centre for Innovative Medicine (CIM). The approximately 27,000-square-foot (2,500-square-meter) CIM is the translational hub of the new Glen Site. It is appropriately located, both physically and symbolically, at the juncture of the children's and adult hospitals– spanning and connecting both hospitals on the fourth floor. The CIM is readily accessible from the Cancer Centre, and has a bridge that directly links to the Research Institute as well. Communication and immediate adjacencies to these hospitals is essential for referral of potential subjects for research studies.

The CIM is a complete, singular translational hub—a miniature campus—in and of itself; bringing patients, clinicians and researchers together while maintaining appropriate separation of in-patients from out-patients; children from adults; and back from front of house functions. The CIM contains state-of-the-art facilities, and the technical platform to support them, to enable researchers and medical students, clinicians and patients to benefit from new and experimental techniques and procedures. With the advanced imaging center, simulation center and central pharmacy connected directly below, the CIM offers a complete translational center for new experimental procedures and innovative therapies.

Groupe immobilier santé McGill is a general partnership formed by SNC-Lavalin inc. and Innisfree Limited. The design team is led by IBI, and also includes Yelle Maillé and NFOE.
