In keeping with its corporate commitment to sustainability, HDR Architecture pursued LEED-CI certification when designing its new Denver office on the 10th floor of a downtown office building with convenient access to public transit. Tenant improvements included the installation of waterless and low-flow lavatory fixtures which resulted in 35% water savings. HVAC and electrical systems were commissioned to ensure efficient operation. Highly efficient lighting was installed, and a contract with a wind energy provider offsets 100 percent of the electricity used in the space.
Materials such as carpet, ceiling tiles, systems furniture, steel studs and gypsum wallboard have high levels of recycled content. Other materials were chosen for their rapidly-renewable content, and 100 percent of the wood is certified by the Forest Stewardship Council. To improve occupant comfort and productivity, CO2 sensors monitor indoor air quality. Systems furniture with low walls between workstations allow daylight from north- and west-facing windows to penetrate further into the space and to allow views to the outside while seated at a workstation.
