HDR Office Renovation
Headquartered in Omaha, Nebraska, USA, HDR has expanded its offices a number of times, expanding from a small office at 2962 Harney Street, to two office buildings at 8404 Indian Hills Drive. With occupiable space again exhausted, instead of buying or leasing new office space, the Architecture company has chosen to renovate its space: accommodating more occupants by embracing business practices of the 21st century.
Recognizing a diminished need for storage space and the shrinking of technology, the new office area has grown from 90 workstations to 133 by reducing the square footage per desk. The open office plan reduces visual barriers, lowering dividers to increase visibility and connectivity. Complementing this open plan, the number of "break out" collaboration spaces has tripled, and private conference space has also increased. Casework, furniture, and storage have been standardized, creating a cohesive look for the space and to eliminating the need for "custom" space solutions.
The scope of the renovations also includes first floor conference rooms, a second floor cafeteria, and fourth floor collaboration space and materials library. Each new element has been color coded by floor; the bright, energetic palette sets off the simple contemporary design, while also aiding wayfinding for the building's frequent visitors.
