I-90 / Beck Road Interchange
A new interchange on Interstate 90 at Beck Road in Post Falls, Idaho, provides needed access to and from a vital interstate highway and reduces future congestion on the local roadway network and adjacent Spokane Bridge and Pleasant View Interchanges.
HDR developed an Interchange Justification Report and provided traffic analysis, planning, bridge design, environmental services and public involvement. The goal was to design an interchange that met the requirements of Foursquare Properties, Idaho Transportation Department, Federal Highways Administration, Kootenai Metro Planning Organization, the city of Post Falls and associated agencies. Extensive traffic operations analyses were conducted for the existing and future 2030 conditions under various local improvements and I-90 interchange alternatives.
Stakeholders placed a significant point of emphasis on the project schedule. The team followed a Critical Path Method schedule to track progress and established good communication processes to ensure that goals were being met. Construction began during the summer of 2012, and the new interchange opened Thanksgiving Day—one day ahead of schedule.
