Newmarket Square Industrial District
Newmaret Square Industrial District is a thriving, 60-acre activity center in Boston. It includes industrial, food-processing and other commercial businesses. We developed, in collaboration with John Roll & Associates, a wayfinding and signing program for Newmarket Square. The goal was to promote a strong, comprehensive and positive identity for the district by installing user-oriented, cost-effective graphics that could be updated as the district's needs evolved. The signage was part of a larger project to improve circulation, truck access, parking and infrastructure within the area.
We analyzed the site to determine current and future signage needs, assessed traffic flow and parking, and gave particular attention to transient visitor traffic in and out of the area. Our emphasis was on effective wayfinding. We also prepared bid documents for directional and trailblazer signs; large gateway/map kiosks at key entry points to the district; and special gateway signs to be affixed to Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) commuter rail bridges bordering the site.
