In order to meet future energy needs, a new pulverized coal-fired unit at the existing generating station located in Trimble County, Kentucky has been built. The new Unit 2 infrastructure consists of one pulverized-coal boiler, associated control equipment and new fly ash handling equipment. The new coal-fired boiler will utilize high efficiency, supercritical pulverized coal technology to generate steam that, in turn, will be used to power a 760-megawatt generating unit that will provide baseload power to the electric grid on a continuous basis.

As Owner's Engineer, we provided essential support to keep the project moving towards completion, meeting challenges for both new plant design and modifications of existing facility systems. Design engineering specifications were developed for the new auxiliary boiler and associated equipment, a reverse osmosis system, addition of a fuel blending system and service water system upgrades. We were also involved in environmental and air permitting support, dust collection and coal handling upgrades, site specific cost estimates, constructability and design drawing reviews and construction monitoring.
