The San Antonio River Authority (SARA) is developing flood inundation mapping applications to serve the San Antonio River Basin emergency response agencies. The Bexar County Flood Forecasting System (FFS) is a near-real time FloodWorks application that ingests EFWS and NEXRAD data, models catchment hydrology, maps flood inundation, has the modeling capability to produce short-term stream forecasts, and provides decision support tools for the Emergency Managers(s) to use for event planning and event responses. The system became operational for Salado Creek in July 2011. HDR is currently working with SARA to extend the system to cover all of the major watersheds in Bexar County. The FFS dynamic hydraulic models have to be fast and reliable in order to produce alerts and flood inundation maps every 15 minutes. This system will be an invaluable resource tool for the San Antonio Office of Emergency Management (SAOEM), the National Weather Service Forecast Office (NWS-WFO) in New Braunfels, and SARA in managing the flood risk in San Antonio and Bexar County.
