South Gate Facility
We provided professional services for design and construction of a new South Gate Facility at Travis AFB, California. The new base entrance features three inbound lanes, an inspection facility canopy, grading and drainage, lighting, new security fencing with a bi-parting rolling gate and an administration building. Demolition included roadways, landscape features, a small building and site electrical. Roadway transitions featured flatter curves and wider lanes to accommodate truck off-tracking and provide access for priority screening. An inspection truck waiting area was designed to accommodate two vehicles and a parking lot was included for guard and escort parking.
The administration building is a load-bearing masonry structure with a pre-finished metal panel roof over steel decking and a canopied vehicle inspection bay. Subgrade pits were included for inspection of of commercial trucks and trailers. The exterior walls of the administration building are masonry with stucco exterior finish and the facility features ballistic-resistant construction. The vehicle inspection bay is steel-framed structure with furred/stucco columns and framing. The design includes active vehicle barriers coordinated with tire shredders and drop arms.
