United Hospital Emergency Department
HDR was engaged to plan and design the renovation and expansion of the Emergency Department (ED) at United Hospital to become a model in the community for efficiency, and quality outcomes. United asked HDR to work with staff from the ED, its supporting departments, and community representatives to identify opportunities for process improvement that will improve customer satisfaction, enhance efficiency, and support quality clinical outcomes.
The new Emergency Department will support the projected 50,000 annual visits for 2020. Systems and facilities reflect attention to patient dignity, family comfort, and staff efficiency to maximize flexibility. All exam rooms are private and are sized to handle a full complement of cases while also accommodating one to two family members if desired.
A dedicated radiology room, CT scanner and ultrasound are located in the ED. The radiographic room is strategically located to minimize travel times of most Emergency Department patients yet provide direct transportation from resuscitation/trauma rooms. The room is user-friendly with easy stretcher access and visual control.
