Wastewater Treatment Plant Construction
Located in the high plains of eastern New Mexico, Cannon AFB supports Air Force special operations, a mission that requires a base with sound infrastructure. Our team provided support services to Cannon AFB, from design-build construction to "green" design and construction consulting. A project to expand the existing wastewater treatment plant at the base began with design of two 8-million gallon basins to help conserve water resources by increasing storage capabilities and making treated wastewater available for reuse in winter months. The design work was followed by excavation of the first basin with installation of a computer-operated pump and valve system to direct raw wastewater back to the facility headworks. With a dedicated construction crew, we excavated more than 34,000 cubic yards of soil to prepare the site for installation of a polypropylene liner.
Additional work includes inspection of military housing units and dormitories for asbestos, with abatement as necessary. We also developed an Environmental Management System (EMS) and Resource Efficiency Manager (REM) support to reduce base utility costs, consumption and demand by prioritizing resources and identifying potential energy conservation programs. More than $25 million in savings opportunities were identified in the first year.
