Wyodak to Windstar 230 kilovolt (kV) Transmission Line
Black Hills Power is developing additional electrical generating facilities at its Wyodak/Neil Simpson Complex, east of Gillette, Wyo. to meet the increasing demand for electricity in the area as well as serving loads to the south. A new 230 kV transmission line has been constructed in Campbell County, Wyo. to maintain continuity of service in the region, improve system reliability, maintain adequate voltage levels, and support the existing transmission network in the area. We provided multi-disciplinary environmental, engineering and right-of-way services for the new transmission line.
The first phase entailed 50 miles of transmission extending from Wyodak to Pumpkin Buttes. A siting analysis, corridor evaluation and environmental review was followed by an extensive public involvement and outreach strategy. We coordinated and performed right-of-way acquisition, including negotiations with landowners and preparation of all easement documents. Transmission line design included new structure framing details, line modeling and analysis, plan and profile drawings, foundation details and specifications.
From start to finish, our approach was to perform various project phase tasks seamlessly to ensure on-time completion. Due to admirable performance, we were selected for the second phase extending from Pumpkin Buttes to Windstar with relatively similar scope.
