Youngmen Lake Planning, Design and Construction Management
Papio-Missouri River Natural Resources District selected HDR to prepare preliminary and final designs, as well as provide construction contract administration services for a flood control structure located on an unnamed right bank tributary of West Papillion Creek in Omaha, Nebraska. Youngmen Lake is a multi-purpose reservoir facility to be used for flood control and recreation, while also serving as an attractive amenity for the surrounding community.
Hydrologic/hydraulic investigations were performed to determine the peak design discharges of the basin and to determine the sizes and elevations of the principal and auxiliary spillways based on NRCS TR-60 design criteria. HEC-RAS was used to simulate a dam breach flood and prepare inundation maps showing the dam breach impact on the downstream reach. Permitting activities include the USACE Section 404 permit and Nebraska Department of Natural Resources construction and storage permits. Other engineering services included right-of-way design, wetland and stream channel mitigation design and construction contract administration. Construction contract administration included a full-time inspector responsible for construction documentation and observation.
