HDR Welcomes Susan McDevitt
As a senior healthcare consultant, Susan McDevitt, RN, MS, will lead all aspects of our healthcare planning efforts with clients. This includes creating strategic and master facility plans, designing functional and space programs and identifying opportunities for process improvement.
As a senior advisor, Susan will use her experience in healthcare delivery, strategic planning, operational improvement and building design to inform and guide engagements with clients.
Susan is passionate about helping design spaces that promote safety, efficiency and comfort for patients and visitors. “I have worked in many hospitals with designs that actually interfere with, rather than promote, efficiency and helping nurses and medical staff do the safe or right thing,” she says.
Susan has 17 years of nursing experience, and for the past 12 years has worked as a neonatal nurse practitioner. Her greatest joy related to her nursing career: “Helping babies and families in their greatest time of need,” she says.
Her healthcare leadership work has spanned three continents at medical facilities including Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Landstuhl, Germany, the Royal Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Parkville, Australia and most recently the Oregon Health & Science University in Portland.
In her new role, Susan is most looking forward to influencing design and helping nurses and medical staffs do their jobs “safer, better and easier.”
“We are excited to have Susan join HDR, and specifically our planning team in the Charlotte office,” says Cyndi McCullough, vice president and senior healthcare consultant. “Her experience as a nurse and her education in healthcare facility design make her a perfect fit for our team.”
