P&G Brings Beauty to Mason Business Center

HDR has been selected to design and plan a new $300-million research and development center at Procter & Gamble’s Mason, Ohio campus. The 500,000-square-foot facility will be home to P&G’s beauty product research division, housing 1,150 inventors, scientists, researchers and consumer experts.

"This center will drive our beauty business and inspire innovation for decades to come," says Bryan McCleary, associate director at P&G. The Beauty Innovation Center will include laboratories, pilot plants and space to conduct consumer focus groups on new P&G beauty products.” P&G beauty brands include Pantene, Clairol, Old Spice, Cover Girl, Max Factor, Olay, and the Gucci fragrance lines.

The new Beauty Innovation Center will consolidate operations at the Sharon Woods Innovation Center in Blue Ash, Ohio—which currently houses employees at two separate facilities—and bring these employees under one roof at P&G’s Mason Business Center, already home to the company’s oral and personal care business units. Co-locating research centers for beauty, oral care and personal care will create an even stronger core of technical expertise and more opportunities for serendipitous inspiration.

HDR’s Princeton, New Jersey office has provided the strategic planning, and is leading architecture and engineering for the project. This extends HDR’s working relationship with P&G, which includes the design of the original Mason Business Center; renovations to their corporate headquarters in Cincinnati; and ongoing lab planning for facilities in Cincinnati and West Chester, Ohio.

Construction will begin this summer, with move-in planned to begin in 2018. Ultimately, P&G will have more than 3,650 employees and contractors in Mason, increasing in the current size of the Mason Business Center by more than 30 percent.
