HDR Welcomes Mark Tiscornia to the Phoenix Office
Mark Tiscornia, AIA, LEED AP BD+C, has joined the HDR Phoenix office as a healthcare principal. Relocating back to Phoenix after working in San Francisco for 10 years, Mark plans to make a positive impact in the Southwest, as he did in California, by growing the business, developing strategic and master plans and executing complex health projects.
Mark is a great addition to our health practice,” says Todd Tierney, regional director of operations. “He brings strong acute care and ambulatory experience that will enhance and strengthen the Phoenix studio and grow our practice in the entire western region.”
Specializing in health, Mark has planned, designed and managed projects from small buildings, early on in his career—including medical office buildings and ambulatory care centers—to progressively larger acute care OSHPD replacement hospitals, including the $1 billion+ Stanford University Children’s Hospital Expansion, a project he has led for the past five years. In the past, he was also responsible for the planning, design and construction of various large-scale projects for Sutter Health, an industry leader in Integrated Project Delivery (IPD). One of Mark’s many significant industry accomplishments is his work on the California AIA task force where he helped update the AIACC‘s definition of IPD. It has become an industry standard.
His passions are elevating design to its highest level and striving to make the world a better place, both of which guide him each day. Mark sees his strengths as contributing to the evolution in health delivery, helping clients to realize their strategic visions and promoting technology to lead the way into the future. He also anticipates helping to grow new and committed health leaders. Mark says, “The way we do our work has changed, and our staff, partners and clients all demand that we embrace evolving technology as members of integrated teams. This enables us to work faster, better and on budget. I was an early adopter of BIM, and I look forward to elevating and using the latest technology to design and build the versatile health environments that we must create to compete in this ever-changing market, while also reducing owners’ risks on these complex healthcare projects.”
With roots in the Southwest, he earned his undergraduate degree in architecture from the University of Arizona and later in his career, an MBA from Arizona State University. Mark is eager to reconnect with local colleagues and friends, and to establish a renewed HDR health presence in the region.
Mark’s dedication to attaining goals is also apparent in his personal life: He has hiked the Grand Canyon from the North Rim to the South Rim on three separate occasions. Rigorously training for months, he was able to complete the grueling treks each time in just one day.
