HDR Supports United Nations’ World Water Day
HDR offices around the world are showing support for the United Nations’ World Water Day 2016.
Held every March 22 since 1993, World Water Day provides an opportunity to learn more about water-related issues and take action to make a difference. This year’s theme, “Water and Jobs,” shines a spotlight on this delicate relationship and how each has the power to transform people’s lives. The basic provisions of adequate water, sanitation and hygiene services at home and in the workplace support a robust economy—contributing to a healthy and productive population and workforce.
Countries around the world and tens of thousands of individuals and organizations participate in World Water Day, which is coordinated by UN-Water, the entity responsible for UN’s work on water and sanitation.
“We must do our part in advancing this conversation,” said Dave LeCureux, HDR operating president, water. “This is a great opportunity to help elevate the importance of water, sanitation and storm protection, and take action to make a difference in our communities.”
This year, to help build excitement for World Water Day 2016, HDR offices supported the day in a number of ways:
- Reflecting on how water changes lives, three staff shared their stories through our BLiNK blog
- With 84 submittals (from ice palaces to desert scenes), HDR staff from around the world shared “what water means to me” through a photography competition
- For classroom or after-school fun, staff created a four-page coloring book perfect for anyone excited to learn about water
- Encouraging all HDR employees to engage in community education or improvement activities this month in support of the campaign. Suggested activities include volunteering to clean up local waterways, speaking in schools about important water topics, helping clients participate, promoting conservation activities and raising funds for water-related charities such as Water for People, Chesapeake Bay Foundation and Engineers Without Borders.
