H. Michael Smith Joins HDR Architecture

HDR Architecture is pleased to announce that H. Michael Smith, AIA, LEED AP has joined the firm as a Director for the Education | Science | Tech (EST) practice in the South Region.

An architect with over three decades of experience, Michael comes to HDR having devoted his entire career to designing facilities that advance some of society’s most ambitious and important research goals in the academic, science, and technology sectors. Holding senior leadership positions at some of the nation’s largest architectural firms, he has led and managed many notable projects including academic and biomedical teaching and research laboratories, biotechnology and pharmaceutical research and production facilities, cleanrooms for microelectronics and medical device manufacture, and animal research facilities, among others.

“I’m thrilled that Mike has joined HDR,” stated Steve Riojas, director of EST. “He is an active practitioner in education, science and technology sectors, bringing hands-on knowledge, experience, and creative thinking throughout the entire project spectrum to our clients.”

At HDR, Michael will lead the EST practice in Charlotte, Atlanta, Tampa, Dallas, and Houston, developing and nurturing strong relationships with clients and institutions across the academic, science, and technology sectors.

Committed to understanding and addressing his clients’ most pressing challenges, Michael is actively engaged with the science and technology community, regularly participating in and contributing to industry and trade events and publications.  In 2013 he joined the Board of Directors for the Los Angeles Biomedical Research Institute at Harbor UCLA Medical Center, in Torrance, California, helping advance their mission for developing innovative solutions for healthcare through biomedical discovery.
