Sampson is Powerful Addition to HDR’s Industrial Water Team

Dan Sampson has joined HDR as a principal technical consultant for industrial water and wastewater treatment projects. He is based in HDR’s Walnut Creek, California, office.

Sampson is considered an expert in application of emerging water treatment technologies to power plant processes. He spent the past 35 years assisting industrial clients in determining the optimal approach to tackling their real-world problems by using novel approaches, applying detailed cost-benefit analyses and taking a holistic approach to problem solving. He’s a leading expert in the area of municipal water reuse and zero liquid discharge processes for power and industrial projects.

“Dan is inspiring to work with — he’s a natural and charismatic leader who brings teams together to produce impressive results," said Colleen Layman, professional engineering services director for resources. “He’s worked with cutting edge technologies in developing solutions for his industrial clients, and keeps an eye on what’s next for helping power plants become more sustainable. After appreciating Dan’s expertise for years, I’m so happy he’s on our team.”

His background spans the gamut in treating power and industrial plant wastewater. He has led teams in power plant effluent limitations guidelines compliance and management, coal combustion residual compliance and management, plant water and wastewater management, brine recovery and zero liquid discharge systems, and environmental permitting. His industry experience, in addition to fossil, solar, and geothermal power plants, includes projects in refineries, chemical production, food and beverage, and desalination facilities across the U.S. and around the world.
