Using Behavioural Design to Enhance Active Living and Healthy Eating — An NCCOR Sponsored Symposium

Jeri Brittin, HDR's Director of Research, will be participating in a symposium on health-promoting school design at the upcoming Environmental Design Research Association conference. The symposium is sponsored by the National Collaborative on Childhood Obesity Research (NCCOR).  Other participants include representatives from NIH, CDC, Cornell University, the University of Notre Dame and the University of Wisconsin.

Jeri's presentation is titled Schools that Move! Applying and Evaluating Design Strategies to Promote Physical Activity and will highlight the applications of physical activity design guidelines for school architecture that were developed from a comprehensive review of literature. She will also discuss both expected and unexpected outcomes from a pilot natural experiment that tested objectively-measured impacts of these design strategies on students’ physical activity and sedentary behaviour outcomes at school.

The review of literature that Jeri and her colleagues conducted is available here: Physical Activity Design Guidelines for School Architecture
