Huawei Awards Two HDR Projects with Excellence Awards
HDR team members have received recognition awards from Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology solutions provider, for their efforts on two important Huawei projects.
The first award received is for Excellent Design in 2017 for the Taiwan Park School. The school is a private, international school for up to 2,400 students in grades 1 through 12 supported by Huawei. The 72,000-square-metre campus includes the school building with flexible classrooms, open collaboration areas and the library as well as a gymnasium and multipurpose auditorium facility that are all connected by a central courtyard space. A dormitory for 600 boarding students and canteen are also provided as well as outdoor athletic fields and courts. An underground parking garage provides 300 spaces for administrative staff, faculty and visitors.
The architecture of the overall campus is rooted in a traditional brick, English boarding school style that sets the framework for academic excellence, yet modern interior spaces, forms and colours weave throughout the campus to support state-of-the-art technologies and education methods promoting discovery, wellness and a connection to the natural environment.
The second award is for the Huawei Suzhou on-site Excellent Site Service in 2017. The Huawei Suzhou project is a 106 acre (43 hectare) technology centre campus consisting of over 640,000 square metres of buildings for the Huawei Corporation in Suzhou.
The project features multiple buildings of various but complementary forms, which creates openness with views to the surrounding natural environment. The design incorporates water, gardens, woods, courtyards, parkland and plazas to both symbolically and literally intertwine the natural with the built environment. The project's enormous size is humanised through clarity of design, proportion and scale. It includes a large data centre, laboratories, closed and open offices (which can be converted to laboratory space), workstations, touch-down spaces, informal gathering spaces and formal meeting rooms.
