Yong Kang Rejoins HDR as Director of Corporate Science
Yong Kang, AIA, NCARB, has rejoined HDR as director of corporate science for the architecture practice.
Based in Los Angeles, Kang will lead global strategy, growth and development of new and existing business with major U.S. and international corporations in the life sciences, biotech, medical and advanced technology sectors. He will be responsible for bolstering HDR’s presence in the corporate science market through quality design, innovative planning, client service and thought leadership on research environments and related facilities throughout the firm.
“I am excited to be returning to this world class firm,” said Kang. “I look forward to doing the work that I love while collaborating with colleagues who are true experts in their respective fields.”
Kang returns to HDR where he previously served as principal. He brings over twenty years of proven experience in leading large teams and managing major projects to this role. He has led the design of more than 18 million square feet of complex building environments for corporate, government, education and healthcare clients throughout North America and Asia.
“We’re very fortunate to have Yong rejoin HDR after ten years away,” said Steve Riojas, global director of education, science and tech. “He is ideally suited to lead our corporate science market given his background in design, planning, business-building and operations and his familiarity of our portfolio and many of our clients in the U.S. and abroad. We are excited for him to hit the ground running.”
Kang has a Master of Architecture from Syracuse University and has been active in several organizations over the course of his career. These include the American Institute of Architects, International Society of Pharmaceutical Engineering, International Facility Management Association, Urban Land Institute and the Southern California Development Forum.
