Big Ideas in a Small Space: Versatile Venue Welcomes Patrons 

A jewel within the Denver Performing Arts Complex (DPAC), the Buell Theatre was in need of a lobby renovation, in time to host the 2017 world premiere of the Broadway-bound Disney musical “Frozen.”

Beyond the theatre space, the theatre lobby hosts galas, banquets, meetings and receptions. To create an attractive and functional space, repairs and enhancements were needed to structural elements, entry lighting, the curtain wall and the mezzanine to ensure the lobby remained structurally sound, with flexible space that could morph to serve a variety of events.

Under a contract with the City of Denver, HDR led the cross-disciplinary design study and implementation of the needed renovation, resulting in construction being completed ahead of schedule. The much-anticipated result offers a warm, welcoming and versatile entry and reception venue for patrons.
