John A. MacAllister
“I believe that human behaviour and performance is shaped by the environments in which we live and work and that the built environment is vitally important in the successful operation of custodial and secured treatment facilities. To work with clients in the very earliest stages of their project's development allows us to collaborate on solutions that respond to human needs and to ensure that approach is carried through to the end product."
A specialist with over 30 years in the development of custodial facilities and an advocate for restorative justice design, John is an internationally recognised expert who has planned, programmed and designed a significant number of the most advanced detention, treatment and secure mental health facilities in the United States and internationally. John’s portfolio includes over 100 justice and behavioral health projects. He is versed in a full spectrum of justice consulting and secure psychiatric facility consulting.
John frequently speaks and presents at industry conferences, including in 2016, conferences for the Academy of Neuroscience for Architecture (ANFA), The Salk Institute, the AIA Academy of Architecture for Justice (AAJ) and the International Corrections and Prisons Association in Bucharest.
