Perfluorinated compounds (PFCs) are a persistent group of manufactured organofluorine chemicals which have served many purposes in industrial and consumer product applications. Also referred to as perfluorinated alkyl substances (PFASs), PFCs have been utilized for their ability to repel oil and water and long-term stability. Several compounds are categorized as PFCs, including perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS).
