Mark Ellis

Transportation O&M Facilities Director

“Our interactive approach and innovative facility solutions resonate with our clients, and our portfolio of creative, safe, innovative and efficient facilities that truly support clients’ needs is our calling card.”

With 29 years of experience, Mark has contributed to more than 250 projects, including 100-plus transit facilities and 70-plus municipal facilities around the globe, including the first two LEED Platinum facilities in the U.S. — South Bend Transportation Facility in Indiana and GoRaliegh Bus Operations and Maintenance Facility in Raleigh, North Carolina.

These days, Mark leads the growth of our transportation O&M facilities practice and directs our staff's technical capabilities. Although most of his work focuses on transportation, he supports practices across HDR and provides direct project support for key programs worldwide. His focus is on how we can help clients optimize their operations — from planning and design through operations and maintenance.

Mark’s passion for such highly specialized facility design stems from the revelations his work makes possible for others. “Everyone wants to work in a great space with the right tools to help them  do a great job," Mark said. "If you engage people and discuss how upgrading their work environments will improve how they do their jobs, people really start to listen.”

An active member of American Public Transportation Association and the American Public Works Association, he has presented multiple times for both organizations. He is also a 2014 graduate of the American Public Transportation Association’s Leadership APTA program. His articles have been published in Passenger Transport, Metro, Bus Ride, Government Fleet, and APWA Profile.
