Mark Hentze, AIBC, AAA, NLAA, IAKS, MRAIC
Vice President, Director of Sport & Recreation
"I’m an ex-athlete so being deeply engaged in sports architecture is a natural outlet for me. I strongly believe that helping to facilitate active and healthier lifestyles through recreation projects’ design is critical to the pursuit of well-being and reduces strains on our health systems. It’s really preventative healthcare."
Mark heads our Sport & Recreation practice and continually strategizes toward building and growing our portfolio on a global scale. He has led or co-led the completion of more than 40 facilities across Canada, ranging from community centres to high performance sport complexes. Key to his work has been his ability to successfully engage in public consultation processes that help facilitate consensus-based solutions.
Leading recreation and community projects with strong sustainable priorities, he is able to work within multiple green building rating systems. Mark brings his passion for sports and community recreation design to all aspects of projects and is a frequent presenter at industry conferences and events, on topics that include CPTED (the use of crime prevention through environmental design techniques) sustainable design in recreation facilities, and wood design. Mark regularly presents at Sport Architecture conferences in Canada and internationally, such as IAKS in Germany. Sharing his insights on design, he recently spoke at the 2017 Recreation Foundation of British Columbia Directors Workshop. A published writer, his articles have appeared in a number of industry journals including Athletic Business, SB Magazine and Recreation Management.
