Texas Architect, the publication of the Texas Society of Architects, recently published an article exploring “the juxtaposition of preservation and innovation” on NASA’s Johnson Space Center campus. Two major projects on the campus are showcased: the restoration of the historic Mission Operations Control Room #2 (MOCR-2) and the HDR-designed Human Health and Performance Laboratory (Building 21). The article highlights how Building 21 has “already paid dividends in its first year of operation, when researchers from different disciplines discovered a relationship between cardiovascular health and vision problems that might not have been established had they been working in separate buildings, as before.”
